orking with associated animal shelters, on a non-profit basis, we find new homes for dogs and cats which have been rescued from the streets of Moscow.

Laika - the first dog in Space!

"God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled.  Do not trouble their joy, do not harass them, do not deprive them of their happiness, do not work against God's intent. Man, do not pride yourself on your superiority to animals : they are without sin, and you, with your greatness, defile the earth by your appearance on it, and leave the traces of your foulness after you - alas, it is true of almost every one of us

Each animal is health checked, neutered and vaccinated before going to its new home advice and the necessary documentation for this purpose.  Although our main role is to act as an introduction agency for people looking for pets, we also provide advice about caring for your pet, general animal welfare information and a contacts directory on animal related matters, such as veterinary surgeries in different districts of Moscow.

As the shelters we support operate at maximum capacity most of the time, it is not possible us to offer shelter space through this site.  If you have found a homeless dog or cat and like us to help you find a home for it through moscowanimals.org, we will only be able to do so if you send us a photo and some brief details, such as its age, history and temperament.  To stand the best chance of finding a home, it should be health-checked by a vet and, if possible, vaccinated. We don't not advocate profiteering from stray adoption.

For our logo we have chosen the image of Laika, the Moscow street dog who was the first living creature from earth to travel in outer space. Laika's story is told elsewhere on the site but she represents for us the plight of homeless animals everywhere - abandoned or exploited but rarely treated with the respect and compassion which all living creatures deserve.

We believe that animals, as living creatures, are entitled to legal protection, moral and ethical consideration and have a value beyond financial measurement. Our goal is to achieve a wider recognition and acceptance of these guiding principles, while working to alleviate the plight of Moscow's street animals by finding homes for as many of them as possible with responsible, caring owners.

If you would like to offer a home to one of our animals, need advice or information about an animal welfare matter, or would like to support our work in some way, we'd love to hear from you.

Thank you for stopping by!
